As Pliant as the Bamboo

Give it to Filipinos in general and Guinaronanhons in particular: They are as pliant as the bamboo, just swaying to whichever the wind blows. And no matter the vicissitudes, the Filipino will just plod on and hope for the best.

Take the case of the month of May, the most-fiesta laden month of the year. In spite of–yes, vicissitudes–Guinronanhons will take the challenge head on–that is, in paying homage to San Pascual Baylon. In effect, Guinaronanhons have two fiestas, one for Metro Manila and the basic one, the Guinarona fiesta, May 16-17. The one in Metro Manila is held every fist Sunday of May and has been a tradition since 1978.

Also head on we face the stark loss of our century old image of San Pascual Baylon, which has made someone rich beyond measure. The rogue that the thief is, we wish him well.

And, as you well know, we are having a new state of the art San Pascual image curved as we speak.

Yes, we are as pliant as the bamboo.
